pumpkin in the petunias!

At the end of the school year in a few months ago in June, Mary brought home a bunch of "flowers" that she had been growing for various school projects.  I had already planted our flowers in the front of the house, but I told Mary to ahead and plant some of hers from school there too, and we would see if they could survive.

A couple months passed, and a few weeks ago we noticed a huge green plant growing in the petunias.  It didn't look like anything we had seen before.  It kind of looked like a weed, but Mary refused to let me pull it...just in case.

Well, it's a good thing we didn't pull it!  We discovered this weekend that pumpkins are growing from this giant green plant!

Haha!  We have a small pumpkin patch, and didn't even know it.  We are hoping they will be ready in time for Halloween.

Gotta love pumpkins in the petunias!
